The October 2, 2013 meeting of the Gold Country Writers was called to order by Chair Chery Anderson in the PlacerArts conference room with 18 members present. There were no visitors. A Round Robin was conducted with each person give a short recap of what they were working on and any news they wanted to share.

Announcements included Open Mic on October 8 and Sierra Writers meeting on October 9. Therese Cruther-Marin said the Suburban Sacramento members had published an anthology of members work. Their next meeting is October 14. Susan Korn spoke about her reception held at her home for the ladies included in her book “Soul Sisters”. Chery Anderson talked about Mary Ellen Dempsey’s appearance the TV show Good Morning Sacramento, and Pat Grogan’s new book which is featured on the GCW website. The link to buy the book is included.

Treasurer/Membership Chairman Therese Crutcher-Marin reported $1124.74 in the treasurer’s account. One new member, Cindy Sample, had submitted dues. She reminded members to pay their PlacerArts membership fees.

Skip Michael reported on the Speakers Series talk he gave on September 18. He is working on another talk for the spring on using the internet to market books.

The next Speakers Series talks will be Susan Rushton on October 16, Rebecca Martinez on November 20 and Joanne Butterfield on January 15. Betsy Schwazentraub said she was attending a talk by a publisher at the El Dorado Library and suggested he might make a good speaker for our group.

Susan Korn and Gail McGonigle, co-chairmen, gave a report on the plans for the Fall Book Affair on October 26. Eleven authors have requested a space at a table. Gail is encouraging authors and our members to wear costumes and decorate the tables with Halloween themed décor. There was a discussion of placing an ad in the Journal. Chery Anderson will handle that. Everyone was urged to distribute posters, flyers and facebook notices to friends and enemies. Chery said she would email the small poster to the entire mailing list.

The last Art Walk of the summer will be held October 10 in downtown Auburn. PlacerArts will have a reception for the artists. A membership table will be set-up and Therese Crutcher-Marin will have a selection of books and brochures for GCW available for the estimated 75 attendees.

Members were quizzed about entering the Christmas Craft Fair at the Gold Country Fairgrounds that the group participated in last year. No one volunteered to follow-up and the suggestion was postponed until the next business meeting.

Next meeting is the Drop-in Critique meeting held in the Green Room at PlacerArts on October 9. The October 30 meeting will be a breakfast meeting at Mel’s Diner because it is the fifth Wednesday of the month and designated “Party Day”.
