Michael O’Haver

Michael O’Haver was born in Atascadero, California.  He got into writing rather late in life three years before retiring from a 38 year career as a City and Regional Planner.

His daughter Lisa, by his second marriage was going through a divorce.  She wanted to give her own daughter Mickenzie something to do during this difficult time in both their lives.  She asked Michael to e-mail Mickenzie. He was happy to comply.  When he did, he asked Mickenzie, who was about ten at the time, to start a story about herself and some of her many pets.  She would send it to him and he would edit it, adding his part. When they finished a story, they would pick another pet or adventure; some were imaginary, and some were based on true events. The result was the chapter book – Mickenzie’s Menagerie. Two of the chapters in Mickenzie’s Menagerie, Michael has since turned into picture books:

  • The Perfect Christmas Tree, and
  • The Tales of Two Kittens

Over the years he has gotten inspiration for seven more children’s picture books, three educational workbooks for children, a couple of adult self-help books and currently is working on his first Historical Novel – Gold Fever, as well as his first Memoir about his athletic career – The Memoirs of a Track Nut.
