Marla Mion is a recently retired educator who has been a member of GCW since October 2023. She became a teacher in order to instill a passion for reading and learning in children. During her seventeen-year career she taught kindergarten through 8th grade. Marla also worked as a graphic designer/production artist for Page Design Group in Sacramento and had a brief stint as a ballet instructor. She is now channeling her creative energies towards writing her first book, a fictional memoir inspired by her mother’s life. A true Jersey Girl, Marla graduated from Rutgers University with a B.A. in English. When not writing, Marla can be found sitting on a beach contemplating life’s mysteries, reminiscing about East Coast bagels, traveling, and of course, reading. She is determined to publish her book so that she can honor and celebrate the struggles, setbacks, and sacrifices that women faced during the 1950s, 60s, and 70s. Marla lives in Newcastle with her husband and their cocker spaniel, Dobby.
