Baja Morning

by Leslie Warren

Sunshine falling

through the open window

bathes me in light and heat

seeping through rumpled bedclothes

Languorously

eyelids rise

behind a mane of tousled hair

illuminated

wondrous

in its translucence, sparkling

like icicles in sunglow.

Breath comes up short.

Where have my chestnut curls

gone in the night?
