Born in Canada to English immigrants, I moved to California for love and married an American. After thirty years, I’m still adjusting to the dry, sunny climate (and the American). I clutched my first passport in my eager hand at the age of ten. A love of writing followed when I won a summer essay contest as a teenager. After a successful business career not focused on traveling or writing, I swapped suits for boots to walk my first of four pilgrimages to Santiago de Compostela, Spain.
The journey deepened my connection to both travel and writing, inspiring award-winning short stories based on my Camino experiences. My work is published as a chapter “Nicolle Breaks Free on the Camino” in She Travels: Real Stories of Women Transformed Through Solo Travel by Pascale Landriault. Several stories have earned recognition from “The Daily Adventure” Substack by James Nehring, SOLAS Magazine for Funny Travel Story, and WOW! Women on Writing for Creative Non-Fiction.
A founding member of the Sacramento Chapter of American Pilgrims on the Camino, I also support Placer County’s local writing community, serving on the board of Gold Country Writers and actively participating in a Business of Writing group. When I’m not traveling, writing, or photographing, I may be spotted racewalking, doing tai chi, or negotiating boundaries with neighborhood cats.
My adventure-filled travel memoir, That Camino Book: A Coming-of-Middle-Age Adventure, has found a publisher and should be available in 2027.
