59-word Story Contest Celebration

Join us for a “Sock Hop and Hats Off” and a “Pizza and Salad Potluck” celebration
to honor the winners of the Gold Country Writers 59-word Story Contest!
“Sock Hop and Hats Off”
The event will have a 1959 theme! Members are asked to wear socks for the sock hop and dress in ’59 style clothing. Because it is our traditional Hats Off event, members are requested to wear baseball caps to doff to the winners.
“Pizza and Salad Potluck”
We will have a sign-up ahead for those wanting pizza (and asking for $10 to cover the cost), and for non-pizza people, you are asked to bring a potluck salad to share.

Our speaker will be Geri Spieler.
Her subject will be ““Advanced Internet Research Skills.”
This meeting will be held in the Rose Room at Auburn City Hall.
The public is invited. The meeting is free to attend.
Geri Spieler, author and investigative journalist, has written for the Los Angeles Times, San Francisco Chronicle, and Forbes. She was a Research Director for Gartner, a global technology advising company. Her creative nonfiction book Housewife Assassin: The Woman Who Tried to Kill President Ford has been optioned for a movie. Her upcoming book is a work of historical fiction, Regina of Warsaw: Love, Loss and Liberation.
T0 The winners of the 2024 Gold Country Writers Poetry Contest: First place Catharine Brankamp; Second place Lisa Schliff; Third place Leslie Warren. The 16 entries were judged by three published poets from Lincoln, who compared language usage, mood development, and overall story success to pick the winning poems. Leslie Warren’s poem, “Baja Morning,” about a trip to Mexico took third place. Lisa Schliff’s emotional poem, “Downhill Slide,” about her aging cat, took second place. Catharine Bramkamp’s poem “Lilith,” about Adam and his first wife, took first place. The celebration of winners was held on April 3, 2024, and included all of the submitted poems being read for an audience of 35. Randy Whitwell served as emcee, with Chery Anderson and David Anderson as co-chairs. To Roseann McHenry for holding her Book Signing and Launch party on Sunday, April 14, 2024, from 2 pm – 4pm at Canyon View Community Center, 471 Maidu Drive in Auburn.
